Music
& Pipe Band
GSG
has an extensive music programme which includes a diverse
range of activities such as vocal ensembles, orchestra,
jazz band, pipe band and string orchestra.
Class
room music begins in Junior School with an accent on
performance in vocal and percussion ensembles as well
as an instrumental programme for instruments of the
student's choice being conducted by visiting music specialists.
The
GSG Senior Vocal Group recently achieved a first place
in the Albany Eisteddfod and the newly formed Junior
Choir attained
second place in their first performance.
Our
school orchestra enables all students who play any instrument
to play in a large ensemble and gain valuable experience.
The school offers TEE Music in years 11 & 12 and will
see our first students go through to year 12 in 2004.
The School Pipe Band has already made quite a name for
itself with their appearances at the Anzac parades each
year and continues to grow in numbers. Tuition in the
pipe band is provided by the School.
Art
Students
from Year 1 to 9 attend weekly programs, which are directed
by the Art specialist, and cover a broad spectrum
of mediums. In Year 10 the students are guided through
this preparatory year for the TEE program, which is offered
in
Year 11 & 12.
All
class participants are introduced to a variety of artistic
skills and vocabulary, so that they are better able
to appreciate what they are viewing or creating with
the art forms available.

Another
part of the art experience entails the visiting exhibitions
in the region.
Skills

for the pre primary and primary.
The
Drama Program and the School Ball benefit from the backdrops
and props
created
in the Art room.
A
wide range of creative work is displayed during the Annual
Kingfisher Creative Arts Festival.
They
have the opportunity to be involved in community exhibitions,
such
as the Albany Art Prize and local Galleries.
Drama
The
Drama programme is interlaced throughout the Junior
School Arts programme, as well as the Middle and Senior
Schools as an option. Students enjoy the varied skills
in writing, directing and performing in productions
and plays each term. The students benefit from the workshops
and excursions involving community drama and the arts. |
