House Sport

Through
the House system our students take part in earnest but friendly rivalry each term. Sports
leadership opportunities
exist for students of all levels to take responsibility for coaching, umpiring and managing both House and junior teams.
Regional
Competitions and Community Sport
GSG
is keenly competitive in all Great Southern Secondary Schools Sporting Association and Albany District Primary
Schools events, and is well represented in a range of community sporting associations. Strong school spirit along with
dedicated and enthusiastic coaching have resulted in success for our teams in a number of sports.
State Championships
We
provide opportunities for participation in State Championships including sporting trips to Perth which have lead to selection
for some in State teams.
Sketch
of GSG Sporting Calendar:
The start of each new year sees a flurry of time trials and
early morning training at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre in preparation for our House swimming Carnival.
The rivalry and cheering has barely subsided, when the serious side of swimming training takes our team
to the next level of competition in the inter school carnivals for both primary and secondary swimmers.
These early morning sessions followed by shared breakfasts have contributed to our success in competition,
and strong sense of pride we experience at GSG.
At the other end of our school day students prepare for selection
in the school tennis teams to play in the regional competition of the country schools tennis championships.
Then our sights are set on taking part
in the finals in Perth for the Mursell Shield or Slazenger Cup.
On Saturday mornings GSG cricketers compete
in the Albany Junior Cricket Association competition and mid week evenings we field teams in Junior Basketball competitions
for all age groups.
We
start our Winter sports programme mid way through Term One in the form of pre season training for hockey, soccer
and netball competitions.
Our secondary school Triathlon is a fun event for teams,
and those students who are to take on the challenge of the entire triathlon as individuals. |
